Horde or Alliance?

Wrath of the Lich King

Who says you have to choose? Blizzard doesn’t! At least not anymore. An announcement today from Blizzard revealed that players are now able to create both Horde and Alliance characters on the same PvP server. This is in preparation for their new service which will allow players to pay a fee to change factions.

You have to wonder though – what kind of impact will this have on the game? One thing is sure the next time you decide you want to do some world pvp and you kill someone a few times, you can rest assured that in short order they will be popping up on a level one character to tell you how bad you are. They’ll tell you if you would only fight “fair” they would surely beat you! I mean gosh you’re just so bad you can only kill them because you cheat! They were fighting a mob when you attacked them! You’re such a meanie!

On a more serious note, the biggest impact to the game is likely to be on the economy. You can bet most players are going  to make at least 2 alts of the opposite faction. One to sit at the auction house in Iron Forge/Orgrimmar and one to sit at the auction house in Booty Bay. That will make it fairly easy for players to purchase things from the opposing faction and transfer it over to their own side. In fact a clever person might use this oppurtunity to buy merchandise from one faction that happens to sell for cheaper and make a profit by relisting that same item on the other factions auction house!

So what do you think? Will this change reek havok on economies on various servers? Are their other things that might have a major impact which i’ve missed?

Hasn’t this always been the case? I know you could make a horde and an Ally alt on Echo Isles since I started playing 2 yrs ago. I think its just PvE servers you can do this on though.

The switching sides wasn’t as cool as it sounded when I first heard it. I was thinking “it would be cool to see an orc and dranaei in an instance together”. But I was told you would end up changing races too. :(

As far as the economy goes, I don’t think it’ll change much.

Also, it won’t effect PVP. There is no world PVP in WoW anymore (I don’t count wintergrasp), so no effect at all and Blizzard probably knows that. That’s why they are offering this now and not a few years ago.

Not as big of a deal as some people are making it. It’s a “Why wasn’t this implemented 4 years ago?” kind of thing.
